OFGEM Electricity Networks Price Review: Pay and Pensions
(17/12/09) OFGEM has now published its final proposals on the "Electricity Distribution Price Control Review". This document – available with supporting material on the OFGEM website- sets out the level of charges the companies can make over the next 5 years. The OFGEM press release states that as a result of their proposals the average electricity bill will increase by £430 a year to fund the companies capital expenditure to renew and upgrade the distribution system.

British Gas Decides to Base the New Smart Metering Business in Leeds
(17/12/09) At the Energy NJC on 9th December the company confirmed its decision to base the new smart metering business in Leeds. The existing Services Centre in Leeds will be converted to accommodate the new business.
While this is good news for Leeds as it secures a long term future for the site this development will also raise many concerns for the existing Services staff.

Services Pay 2010
(07/12/09) An agreement has now been concluded with BG S for a pay increase of 1.8% from 1st January 2010. This arises from the established pay formula agreed with the trade unions.

Energy Pay 2010
(01/12/09) All Level 8 members employed by both British Gas Energy
and British Gas Services are due their cost of living increase from
1st January 2010. As members may know the value of the increase is
based on a pay formula that takes account of the prevailing pay
levels and increases taking place elsewhere in the UK economy.
Members will not need to be reminded that the Retail Prices Index
remains in negative figures and this has undoubtedly affected the
figure produced by the formula this year.

OFGEM Review of Pension Principles - delegation report
(24/10/09) On 5 October a delegation from the trade unions including
Mike Jeram, National Secretary UNISON, Ellis Broderick a GMB member
and Trustee of the Gas Pension scheme and Mike Clancy Deputy General
Secretary of Prospect met the Regulator Alistair Buchanan and Steve
Smith who leads OFGEM's regulatory review team to discuss the
submissions we had made on the second OFGEM consultation on Pension
Principles.
The UNISON submission was circulated with the last bulletin. The
trade unions stated that we respected OFGEM's duty to protect
customers' interests but could not understand why OFGEM was spending
so much time on this issue especially as the report that report they
had commissioned from the Government Actuary's Department (GAD) gave
the pension schemes a pretty good bill of health.

Third and Final Consultation Document - OFGEM's "minded to" proposals
(24/10/09) OFGEM has now published its "minded to" proposals in its third and final consultation document on its review of the Price Control Pension Principles. Comments are invited by 13 November. A copy of the consultation document can be downloaded from the OFGEM website - go to www.ofgem.gov.uk and follow links to live consultations.
OFGEM has rejected the argument put forward by the unions, trustees and companies that there is no need to change the current arrangements.
