News OFGEM Pension Review - UNISON Submission (28/09/09) UNISON has submitted comments to the latest OFGEM review of its price control pension principles. In our submission we express our strong concern with the tone and contents of the consultation document which considers incentives for the employers to cut pension scheme costs on the grounds of providing better price value to energy and gas consumers. However OFGEM state in their consultation document that 7 to 8% of total Network Operator costs derive from pension costs which in our view is neither excessive nor against the public interest. One British Gas Redundancy Consultations (16/09/09) On Wednesday, 9th September UNISON representatives attended the first of a series of consultation meetings about the proposed changes within One British Gas and were formally notified of those staff at risk of redundancy in Cardiff : with the total number of potential redundancies being, 29 posts across Level 7 & Level 8 in British Gas Trading and 1 post at Level 7 in British Gas Services. The Business is currently in consultation with us and are committed in securing alternative roles for people to minimise the potential redundancies. More... (16/09/09) Nationally, discussions are underway following a Company proposal to deal with staff in British Gas Energy who are on a salary in excess of the range for their role. More... (16/09/09) At present, the current pay review date for level 8 employees is 1st January. Whilst the agreement states we use October data, the data is never available in time, so July data is normally used (with agreement). All other employees pay review is on 1st April of each year. It is proposed to move all Level 8 employees in BGE to 1st April pay date. Should the pay review date occur on 1st April 2010, staff will receive a pay award covering 15 months. This will then enable the use of the October data. More... More... British Gas Redundancy Announcement (19/08/09) UNISON is aware the of the recent business proposal to reduce staff numbers in Staines by 187. We are also aware that the impact of this will be felt in all offices not just Staines. With the creation of One British Gas and the emphasis being placed on efficiencies we are not surprised that job cuts have been proposed and it is reasonable to believe that there may be more to come. British Gas Business: 'Energy Experts' 3 Steps Career Development Framework (10/07/09) Members in British Gas Business are currently going through an 'Energy Experts' 3 Steps Career Development Framework similar to the 'Adviser, Advocate and Expert' framework within British Gas Residential. The framework has been developed as part of British Gas Business commitment to its 'Great Place to Work', Employee Engagement and Ideas Groups drive.
