Preparations Are Well In Hand To Prepare For The Industrial Action Ballot

(06/08/08) UNISON is already busy preparing to run an industrial action ballot in early September. Members will be asked to support a series of one day strikes to begin in early October.

A strike committee composed of key national reps from both BGE and BGS has been set up and is meeting at least weekly to plan the campaign. The priority at this stage is to ensure that our membership records are accurate and up to date. Branches will be working hard with their Regional Office colleagues over the next few weeks to cleanse the data to get ready for the ballot. If you have moved or changed job in the last few years then it would be worth drawing this to the attention of your local rep.

Currently the strike committee is considering what categories of member should be balloted. Branches will be informed of the decisions in time to prepare for the ballot.

In the meantime if members have any questions, views or concerns about the industrial action ballot then get in touch with your local rep

UNISON decides to ballot members for industrial action

(08/07/08) The recent consultative ballot of members on the pensions issue produced a clear majority of members against the company's plans for pensions and in favour of an industrial action ballot. This result was considered by UNISON's National British Gas Sector Committee on 25th June. During the debate it became clear that the pension's issue was not the only one that members locally were aggrieved about. Among the other issues were off-shoring, the transition of P4 staff to new L7 team leader posts and the potential loss of income faced by BGE CSA members as a result of the introduction of a new pay system.
