There's some news we'd like to tell all members employed
in Centrica/British Gas. Please take a moment to read through
today's headlines:-

Business - Together Meeting The Challenges For The Decade Ahead.
Don't forget to let us know your views!
Unison Moving Forward Inside British Gas Energy,
Services And Business - Together Meeting The Challenges For The
Decade Ahead.
Unlike the GMB who appears to be fighting non - existing battles
on non - existing issues UNISON is concentrating its efforts on
dealing with the real challenges that face employees of British Gas.
Members may be aware of a questionnaire being circulated to GMB's
members. This has nothing whatsoever to do with UNISON or the work
of the NJCs for Services and Residential Energy. The trade union
teams who represent members on these two bodies are pleased with how
industrial relations have improved over recent months. It's worth
making clear that GMB is represented on both NJCs and is party to
the debates and decisions taken.
UNISON is pleased that the management teams of both businesses
have recognised the advantages of working with UNISON rather than
trying to operate unilaterally or by forcing plans through without
full and proper discussion and agreement. However it's clearly not
the case that we will always agree with what management is saying
and there are many cases where the interests of members have to be
robustly and strongly put forward. UNISON's aim is simple and clear
and that is to always represent the best interests of members and
not to flinch from putting them forward without fear or favour. We
will never be pushed around into agreeing to anything unless we
conclude that it's in members interests to do so.
Members can be assured that whether you work in Heating Services,
Field Sales, HSAs or Energy First, Premier Energy, Pay as You Go
Energy and BG Business - UNISON will always be there to support you
and to strongly represent your position within the British Gas
group.
BG Energy has just recently launched its new Smart Metering
business and this offers exciting prospects for the future
development of energy services in the UK. It is great to hear that
Leeds Canal Street will be the home of Smart Metering.
UNISON is fully behind this venture and looks forward to working
with the company to make it a success. We want to see UNISON members
working in this new business and we want them to share in its
success with the right level of pay and terms and conditions. There
is much to do to meet the challenges facing us but UNISON will not
stand by the wayside. We will be there at all times when it matters
to make sure that members interests are fully and properly looked
after.
