Dear Member,
In this update you will find information regarding the

British Gas Business: 'Energy Experts' 3 Steps Career Development Framework
Members in British Gas Business are currently going through an 'Energy Experts' 3 Steps Career Development Framework similar to the
'Adviser, Advocate and Expert' framework within British Gas Residential. The framework has been developed as part of British Gas Business commitment to its
'Great Place to Work', Employee Engagement and Ideas Groups drive. The process is due to be completed by August this year.
Your UNISON representatives have been involved in the development of the framework with the Management Team and members should feel assured with the progress made so far.
There are approximately 1,500 staff impacted by the new framework across BGB. The purpose of the framework is to ensure team members have a clear development and progression structure, giving individuals the opportunity for progression or further development within their current role. To ensure everyone is given the opportunity in being rewarded for their efforts dependant on what level they achieve, the Business has introduced new salary bandings for each expert category as a means to progress and reward you for your contribution.
Team members should have been provided with a copy of the 'Get ready to grow – Energy experts pack' which provides an explanation of each role and sets out the 4 new job families: Account Management; Sales; Credit; and Support/Operational Services. To assist those affected, an intranet site has been put together by the business and can be accessed through the following link:

Everyone affected will undergo an aspiration assessment period, this is where individuals will assess themselves (where they believe they currently sit within 1 of the 3 steps) and agreement is reached with their Line Manager. Any disagreements which arise should be resolved at your 121s with your line managers and/or during the calibration exercise and it is recommended that members prepare a statement in support for their case should they fall within this category. Your trade union representatives are available at hand for anyone seeking assistance.
As part of UNISON's policy on equality, representatives sought agreement from the Business to conduct an Equality Impact Assessment to identify any gaps which may arise with the new framework. The Business welcomed this move and will be conducted at the end of the project implementation.
Your representatives have highlighted that there may be individuals whose salary is greater than the step they might be confirmed in. The Business has given the commitment that all staff will be given the opportunity through development and training to achieve the necessary banding for their salary. Should members find themselves in a situation of difficulty, we ask you speak with your representatives at the earliest opportunity.
Members may also be concerned that the Business has given the indication that staff whose salary is above the relevant banding would have their pay frozen. You may be aware that there are some BGB staff who are on BGT contracts and are bound by collective agreement. As a result, it was further agreed to hold further discussions about this upon the next pay review. What has been made clear by the Business is that all 3 bandings will increase in line with the annual pay reviews.
As with all discussions; members can feedback to their local representatives on the content of any bulletin in order that any concerns can be raised with the company.
